What’s In My Bag – Canon Gear

In my last blog, I covered my Nikon gear and now I am here to talk about my Canon gear.

Last year, I made the decision to sell some Nikon gear and get into some Canon gear for more everyday use photography and then I started shooting video with it as well.

The List:

Canon 5d MarkIV

Canon 35mm F/2

Canon 85mm F1.8

Rokinon 14mm F2.8

The Canon 5d MarkIV was my go-to when looking into camera bodies by Canon. I had used the 5d MarkIV many times before when working with another photographer. It’s a camera that I know I can grow into as a photographer and now a videographer. From the photo to the video capabilities it has been a great asset to my work. It has allowed me to create videos from family events to sporting events.

The first lens I purchased was the 35mm F2 and it’s been a great lens. I chose the 35mm because when working with the other photographer we would use the 35mm f1.4 and I liked the focal length. So, to save money I went with the 35mm F2. Saved money by getting the F2, got the focal length that I wanted but it also came with Image Stabilization which comes in handy with video and photo.

The next lens I purchased is the 85mm F1.8.  I was looking for a lens that had more reach than the 35mm and the 85mm is a good length that I had once before on the Nikon side of things. The 85mm F1.8 is a good length I have used in sports video, interviews, and portraits. F1.8 makes it a great lens matched up with the 5D MarkIV when it comes to low-light video and photo.

Next up, it is my newest purchase.. the Rokinon 14mm F2.8. This is a manual focus lens and is crazy wide. The main and really only purpose I bought this photo is to shoot the stars. I may occasionally try it out for some ultra wide sports photos in the end-zone, behind the soccer goal or under the basketball goal. This lens was cheap and it is also a manual focus lens which is all you need when it comes to shooting the stars. I haven’t had the change to try it out at all yet but soon I will.

Until next time..
